In our willingness to provide for an urgent need during our upcoming trip to Kenya, we had inquired about this of a Kenyan pastor. His response requested that we bring a free two-day medical clinic with us!!! We gasped, this was way out of our realm of things we thought we could do. First, none of us was in the medical field. Second, it would take lots of money and experience to make this happen, particularly when they expected hundreds, maybe thousands to show up. The request was too big for us!

We felt like Moses, not me, not us, we are just not the right people to do that. As a result to the prayer to basically gracefully bow out of this, God's hand started to intervene. Hadn't we all prayed that God would use us? And, sure enough He did! We laid it all in front of God and soon we felt that we could facilitate the clinic. We JUST needed staff (doctors and nurses), medical supplies and medicines! Wow!!!

As a response to our inquiry, a wonderful Kenyan nurse announced that she had already recruited the staff for us, doctors and nurses who would work our clinic free for two days, if we bring the supplies and medicines!!! This was our first confirmation that God wanted us to actually do this. Through an amazing connection with an American nurse, we received a huge donation of supplies: thousands of needles and syringes, blood collection kits, IV set-ups, wound care supplies etc. - one garage full! At this point we were so excited, completely sure that God was in this. We needed to raise funds for the medicines that we were to buy in Kenya. God is awesome! He provided all we needed for the clinic.

This is how it all turned out. More than 3000 poor people were treated over two days. You see, due to the lack of medical care people die of simple ailments and infections.

Over and over in my life God has to remind me that it is not us who is in control. As Marjaana first began to plan the trip to Kiminini, it was requested of her to have the team hold a clinic. Because the schedule was so packed, and only two nurses were going she declined this request. But God's ways are not our ways. The trip planning began to come together more and more as time passed. God sent an experienced nurse from our church across Marjaana's path who had already done several clinics in that area. It just so happened that she was going at the same time our team was going. She happily volunteered to help us out.

After God over came the obstacle of financing the clinics it was all a go. The clinics to be held were being made known to the public. Then, the day before the "experienced clinic nurse" was to leave the US, she had an auto accident which canceled her plans. She was shook up, unable to travel that long distance and disappointed but not seriously hurt. Now we were back to two nurses without clinic 'African style' experience.

But the One that is in control....was in control. On Thursday, the two nurses joined a team of five African medical persons and 500 patients received much needed treatment and medication. Four days later, we joined the team again and 900 patients were seen. It reminds me of Matthew 14:13-21, when Jesus blessed 5 loaves of bread and 2 fish and it fed a multitude of 5000 and this number only included the men. AMAZING! Hebrews 13:8, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."
Does God still perform miracles? RESOUNDINGLY Y E S ! ! !
