Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who are Ordinary Women?

A: We are a group of very ordinary people with ordinary lives with its ordinary challenges, who were moved to action as a result of being exposed to the huge needs of the developing world.

Q: How did you get started?

A: In January 2004, Marjaana traveled to Kenya with a church group. Upon return she was a changed woman deeply moved by her experience in Kenya. As a member of a close-knit women’s Bible Study group the consequence was that five of them joined Marjaana and set out to go to Kenya the same year in September. All of their lives were dramatically changed. The lack of clean water and the consequent rampant illness and death were so disturbing that the group was determined to put their efforts in helping in this grave situation. With a lot of prayer and a clear calling in our hearts Ordinary Women Inc. was born, but not trusting in ourselves, but having faith in the almighty God, who multiplies the “fishes and loaves”.

Q: How do you raise funds?

A: In addition to our monthly pledges, we do special fundraisers like our Annual Silent Auction and Tea. We also accept donations. Please see the Support page for additional information.

Q: What percent of the donated funds does actually go toward the projects?

A: Currently 100%. Our overhead is extremely low and is covered by our monthly pledges.

Q: How can I get involved?

A: You can become a contributing associate with monthly pledges, you can make a one time donation, you can volunteer in various fundraising activities, and you can travel with us to work at the destination community.  Please see the Support page for additional information or contact us at info@ordinarywomen.org.
