2006 Women's Conference

Kenya 2006 Womens Conference

Our third annual Women's Conference in Kiminini, Kenya, was themed "Empowered From Above". The church was packed full and overflow crowd had to sit outside. The head count was 736 women! Our conferences are always produced together with our dear Kenyan sisters and what powerful time that was! Inspiring messages and testimonies were given by our U.S.team as well as the Kenyan team. Unity among us all as sisters in Christ was palpable. For the third time we had the joy of having a Pastor from Nairobi join us. She is a powerful preacher and a good friend.

In connection with the conference we held seminars about HIV/AIDS and Single Women's issues. Both were quite successful and our Kenyan partners will continue to teach our materials in nearby villages. We also held an Orphan Forum for community and church leaders and continued training the trainers on ESL, which we had started last year. Per request from our Kenyan friends, we also held a Women's Spa day. Please see separate reports on all these programs.

It was so wonderful to see the progress of Kiminini Deliverance church. Now the church has a cement floor; a preschool has been operating since January; new classrooms ( sheet metal structures) have been constructed ( need desks!); water flows from the tap and is available to the community; polytechnic is doing well with two-year tailoring and mechanic and carpentry classes. God has blessed this church. I clearly remember what it was like when I first visited it two years ago. Pastor S. is a true man of God, a visionary, a leader. After seeing the crowd react to Milele music ( see report at www.milele.com) he realized that younger folks can be won for Christ with the contemporary music, so he is planning to add a venue with a new style. There's so much left unsaid, the emotional stuff that each of us is trying to sort out and digest. God showed us what he wanted us to see for a particular reason, for us not to forget about it, but to take action in faith.
